Well a knock at the door this morning made me very happy, my order of ‘Ikit Claw’ and the Skaven magic cards turned up early, so today seemed a good time to start my Skaven army log.
I haven’t decided on a name or colour scheme for the army yet, but here is what I’ve got so far:
Heroes:
- Ikit Claw
- Skaven Chieftain (I’m planning to use the one from the IoB boxset for the time being, until the GD’11 miniature comes out and then I will swap him for that).
- Warlock Engineer
Core:
- 20 Clan Rats – with Clawleader, Musician, Standard Bearer and Poisoned Wind Mortar
- 20 Clan Rats – with Clawleader, Musician, Standard Bearer and Warpfire Thrower
Special:
- 2 Rat Ogres and Master Moulder
I’ll be updating this as I go, I just wanted to put down roughly what I have to get started. As I mentioned in my last post, one of my New Years Resolutions is to collect a battalion size force by the end of the year.
Next step: Start cleaning up some of these miniatures
W.

Good start im hopeing to get ikit claw for my army then need 40 clan rats and the new warp cannon and hell pit and thats it
Hi will quick question, im going to try to paint yellow and im going to follow your guide but im not sure where to get the 2 ‘inks’ from vegello, could you please post me a link to them and to the brushes that you use.
Many thanks
Sam
Hey Sam,
There are three people selling it on ebay at the moment: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=vallejo+yellow+ink&_sacat=See-All-Categories I haven’t used any of these personally yet, the person I bought from last time doesn’t seem to be on there anymore.
As for the brushes I buy my Windsor & Newton Series 7s from http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/brushes-series-7-kolinsky-watercolour-brush.htm they do a Windsor&Newton Series 7 Miniature Sables on there, but they are not for painting minis as the name might suggest lol They are quite expensive, but they are high quality and if you look after them, clean them regularly then they should last you a long time. I only have to change my brushes once a year and I paint for a good few hours every day.
Hope that helps
W.
Cheers for the tips but sadly cant do ebay lol
How about these guys: http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Vallejo_Inks.html
perfect cheers will ill buy a few yellows after payday and the brushes that you use are only a couple of quid more than gw’s now so may buy a couple of those then i can try out your yellow.
Cheers
No problem Sam!
Just a quick question to andrew if hes reading this: i was reading your pedro blog and you said about using a yelow ink on him is that vegello yellow ink? Going in gw now to pick up a vomit brown and another pedro, as i was cleaning my first one i snipped off his left shouldpad rim grrrr So ill use him as a test model.
Cheers
Sam
Using GW inks, but (on Wils suggestion) the Vallejo inks are a pretty-close substitute.
I bought a dozen bottles when GW were phasing it out of their product range. I’m still on the very first one – can mail you a GW ink bottle if you want to try one – will never use them all.
Regards,
Andrew.
Yeah when I originally wrote the tutorial I used Citadel inks like Andrew is using, but about 2 months after I wrote it, GW decided to stop producing them. So while I was moving the tutorial over to here, I took the opportunity to update it to use Vallejo Inks instead
o lol wel iv boguht a yeelow and brown so might as well tery them out, hope they give the same result as your fists. Cheers andrew that would be awsome. If you give me your email ill tell you my address.
Don’t worry Sam, Citadel and Vallejo Game are really good matches for each other. I use Vallejo equivilants for all the paints Citadel have discontinued and before I changed the tutorial I gave it a quick go on a spare marine to make sure and it came out well. Didn’t want you thinking I’ve given you a bum steer!
Hahaha … thanks Wil.
Vallejo should match – they started with the Citadel contract before GW started producing their own paints. Er … I think.
Cya,
Andrew.
Yeah that is what I had heard too and they’ve just carried on making it, just with different (but very similar) names lol
Those few comments have given me more hope for those yellow inks now lol Just have to Wait for them to come through the post.
O and i saw the hellpit yesteardy and the warp lighting cannon and they are a lot smaller than in the pictures, still good though.
Quick update- both inks just came through the door, very impressed with that as i ordered them just under 24 hours ago lol
Cool Sam! I’ll bookmark their site, a good place to buy from.
I had the same from GW this week, I ordered some Epic scale Space Marine Dreadnoughts for my Epic army at lunchtime on Wednesday, had a dispatch notifiication an hour later and they were with me the next morning! My friend says it was because I’m probably the only person left in the world still buying Epic stuff from them, so that part of the warehouse has nothing to do
lol well all the mail orders go through the same dispatch so maybe they were bored ha ha
You proberly both know this but these are the next 3 mnotsh of gw releases =
Febuary = blood angels – stormraven and new dreadnought
March = Orcs and goblins
April = Grey Knights – Plastic terminators
Unsure of other releases
Yeah I’m looking forward to the next few months, I’m not that up on the gaming side of things so was looking forward to getting a Stormraven for my Space Wolves, but a friend of mine pointed out that it is a Blood Angel transport…. so it’s back to Drop Pods and Rhinos
Well i heard yesteardy form gw staff that it can be used acroos all codexs apperently.
and also grey knights can use it thats why both o the eleases are close together, but im more of a painting person as well.
@sam – I don’t think you can use equipment across all codices unless there is a specific FAQ or rule in the codex which says you can.
BTW: latest FAQs are out. http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2011/01/40k-news-updated-faqs-older-marines-are.html
am i the only one on this blog now? lol
Hey Sam, nah I’m still around, just snowed under with work at the moment. I’ll be back soon lol
Welcome to my blog Thomas mate! Good to see you on here
yay good good
Hi Sam – I do lurk around as well, but there was nothing to say after you’d greeted Tom!
