Well, last Sunday was the 2011 UK Golden Demon. It was a great day, a long day (having a hangover from the Saturday night really didn’t help lol) by the time I had driven the 2.5hrs home, but still a great one. I got to catch up with some good friends and it was great to finally meet David Rodriguez Garcia, one of my favourite painters. A top painter and really nice bloke too.
Did the usual stuff, wondered around looking at all the cool stuff in Forgeworld, Warhammer Forge display cabinets. Had some over priced rubbery food from the canteen (next year I’m taking a packed lunch I think lol). I really enjoyed getting to talk to Mark Bedford and had a look through his concept sketch book. He told my wife and I that he puts all the amazing ideas in the book down to the amount of cheese he eats…. I must polish off that block of chedder in the fridge later and see what amazing ideas I can come up with tomorrow… probably still none though. 
I was planning on trying to pick up a copy of Tamurkhan, to start to put together my Chaos Dwarf army list and the Show Only Boarding Marine, but the queues were horrendous. I hate queuing at the best of times, so avoided those like the plague. I think I’ve seen the book on eBay for £150 Buy it Now already, but I’m not that desperate. I’ll just wait a few weeks more.
The new Dreadfleet stuff painted up in the cabinets was very, very nice. But as I am a big Man-o-war fan I am biased. I took loads of photos of it all, so I can copy it on my own stuff when my boxset turns up next week.
I entered the painting competition again and I have to say there was a much better atmosphere there this year. I ran out of time for my original idea, so decided to enter a single miniature instead. I’ve kept the main entry back for next year’s competition (oh its gonna be a good’n!).
No marine in a heroic pose for me this year, with Dreadfleet coming out soon I thought it would be a great idea to enter a Sartosa Pirate (this was my first Warhammer category and it made a nice change). I’ve always liked the Pirate Captain miniature, so based it on that and did some small conversion work to make it a bit more unique. I’ve got loads of photos of him in the gallery on here showing all the details, like the half cut rat with a peg leg in the barrel, plus a couple pre-painting shots so you can see all the conversion work.
I am really pleased to say that it won a silver trophy in the Warhammer Single Miniature category. I put a shed load of work into it (probably the most work I’ve ever put into any mini lol), so was very pleased with that indeed.
Now, Golden Demon wouldn’t be Golden Demon without the controversy over my entries. I heard that some people were moaning to a friend of mine that my entry shouldn’t have won anything because “it wasn’t on a gaming base”.

Yup! Pretty sure it was on the standard 20mm GW gaming base that came with the miniature.
